It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

The arms are Gules a tower Argent masoned Sable with port and windows over a base wavy of Argent and Vert, pendulant from chief a demi sun-in-splendour Or with face. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black
upper case letters "ALBUFEIRA".
(editorial note: the inscription is remarkable insofar, as usually for communes with a synonym municipality the inscription begins with "FREGUESIA DE ..." in order to distinct both entities)

Albufeira Commune is one of the five communes of the synonym Municipality (q.v.); it had 16 237 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 26,49 km².
